Hey. I am using a downloading program called 'LimeWire'. I just downloaded a movie, but as it was opening on Windows Media Player it stopped to say I need one or more codecs. I've never heard of codecs before, but do you know what type I would need to play a movie?

Thanks

Okay, I have downloaded the codec I needed so now I can see the video. But I still can't hear anything. I downloaded Gspot and thats not working, so I downloaded the other one, and its working but I dont know how to use it. Does anyone know the best audio codec to download for a movie? The one I downloaded to get the video working is DivX.

Hi,

If you use Windows media player let it download codecs from windowsupdate.com, or download manualy by yourself.

In this forum are many useful sites to download free codecs for sound and video.

I can recommend DivXBundle 5.01 or 5.05 for video, it supports almost all types of video files.

Ive had similar problems with codecs for avi files.
Just wanted to warn you ppl that anti piracy & p2p groups are putting out files that require you to download a certain codec,be carefull as this codec contains a virus or other malicous content.
If you're files will not play with a microsoft codec pack or any other media player types best to delete it.
