tongue.gif Hello! I am giong absolutely stupid trying to figure out the audio codecs I need. I have and ATI all-in-wonder 128 pro card, and I have no audio on playback. I have audio on the tv tuner, but when I record to the hd, I get "error downloading codecs". This is with Media player. When I use the ATI multimedia player, I get no error, just no audio. I can save this as an avi file and have audio, but I only have 1 hour and 38 minutes recording time. If I can save it as a MPEG2 file, I will have as much as 38hrs recording time(based on quality). Any ideas? I am counting on Ya'll!

Did you install ATI multimedia center, latest apps and catalyst drivers? Don't know what sound card or if you use integrated audio, but consider upgrading that as well.

You can try finding out what codec you need by using GSPOt. However, most codecs (aside from 3rd party ones) should be provided with installation disc.

Ok, I Googled GSPOt (thankx for some interesting topics), and downloaded it. It didn't work for me. I have integrated sound, and I had to download from ATI all the drivers I needed for the card. Where can I get an mpeg2 codec? I have xp pro with service pack 2, with no problems. Or, if I can't get audio on the mpeg2, how can I get longer recording time on the avi?

Ok, I tried GSPOt again, and this is what I got:
Warning: DirectShow crashed while attempting to render this file.
This is usually due to damaged, misconfigured, conflicting, or poorly written codec drivers. It is possible, perhaps even likely, that other media players will crash when they attempt to play this file as well, as most of them will also use DirectShow. Although GSpot was able to intercept the crash, attempts to identify the codec which caused it have failed. Unfortunately, no additional information is available at this time.
Well. What does this mean, and how is it fixed? Am I any closer, or digging myself deeper? blink.gif

MPEG2 decoders are bundled with DVD software. Many audio codecs are installed by Windows and sound card... but since you use integrated sound..I'm not sure what have on your system.

Have you installed latest FFDSHOW and directX 9.0C? Installing muliple buggy codec packs sometimes can just create havoc.
