Hello all. I am new to the Encoding, Decoding, and ripping scean. I downloaded the new ACE Mega codec pack thing. Also I downloaded the Lame Mp3 encoder. I used Nero to rip the cd so I could get the names of the songs. But when i used the recomended program to convert the songs to Mp3 with the Lame codec all i get i static as a result. How do i Fix this? and is there a way to just Rip a CD with out going through Nero, Win Media, or Winamp and still be able to get the song names? I used LameXP to encode. I am so lost... i dont know how to use any of this stuff. Also is there like a Encoding, ripping bible someplace on the net i could get a link to? Any help would be great. Thanks.

Hello!
See the pinned topic: DVD Backup, Guides, Resources, you'll find help to ripping DVDs, etc. and basic CD ripping as well.
There are many free programs able to rip audio CDs to MP3, preserving ID tags (song names, etc.) just see free-codecs.com Tools section (an example: FreeRIP).

Sweet thank ya much. Also i did some tinkering and figured out that it was the way I was ripping the cd to begin withthat gave me the static. I used nero and riped it as a .wav and then used razor lame with the Lame incoder and it worked!!!!! I feel proud. Well off to that pined topic. thanks for the poit in the right direction. bye bye.

Nero works quite well especially with the powerpack. Make sure you take advantage of using online CD database (CDDB) so will automatically fill in the filenames, album titles etc.
Also should be able to do "on-the-fly-MP3 encoding" so shouldn't have to convert to WAV file first. If don't want to use bloated Nero for this task, you can also use dedicated small CD ripper like CDEx. Definately recommended.
Cheers
