little help

hi just join to see if u guys could help me with my prob's. i got a armada 7790dmt pentium 233 144 ram 2 mb video and duel booting 98se and 2000 o and its a lattop. i can watch some movies but some outhers look like a slideshow but good audio. i search around alittle and found this and i did what the frist post says and that didnt help. if u guys know anything that could help please tell me. thx

It would help if you gave more specifics. Try reading pinned topic if you are new to installing codecs.

Many formats like AVI (which is a container) uses different video/audio compression so good to know what codec you need. You can use Gspot or Sherlock to identify what you need.

Keep in mind DIV/XVID MPEG4 decoding is quite CPU intensive so you may have problems with playback. You need fairly fast computer (pentium II or higher is recommended).

Yes. As I've told you in my previous post, the only alternative is FFDShow on older machines because of somewhat faster decoding.

BTW have you been able to play videos on this computer previously? Or having problems at all?

I can only suggest FFDShow and an older version of BSPlayer (0.86.501) which uses very few resources. You can download it here:

...and there are alternative decoders for audio (AC3, etc.) too, if you experienced problems with that...

Also, try to close as many applications running in background as you can while watching video.

i am useing ffdshow now cuase it let me play a movie that i couldn't befor and i can full screen every movie and was never able to do that befor. i am going to try that player see if that helps even more. i am guessing i am going to have to just deal until i get a faster puter thx for all ur help u guys rock. sorry if i was a bug about it but i just new there was something i could do to make it better. so i new u guys would have some info. thx alot. if u want to donate to my next puter u can. lol

well i tryed that player and it didnt work it played them slow and wouldn't full screen. i have WMP7 installed and i use the MPlayer that is in the file. if u know of any outher players that use less CPU and r simple like MPlayer let me know.

Question : if comp has alot of installed software(unrelated to codec,video) would it slowdown the comp in anyway?
