I just want to test a theory of mine ... I'm betting contrary to negative forces against Microsoft Vista, most people will still choose it over other OSs. It's due next Christmas, so the question is ... would you want it as a present ... from an evil uncle ? No ... I mean when it comes out will you buy it or will you switch to something else ? You can also post why ... if you want biggrin.gif

By the time you vote I've already switched to Linux permanently, because I think it's infinitely better that Windows ... but the choice is yours ... here is more info:

Just google Microsoft Vista and find out more for yourself if you want.

(This is my first poll ... so I hope it's not too bad unsure.gif huh.gif

I'm switching to Linux too... before Vista comes out... because *damn* Microsoft is slow. tongue.gif

Here are my reasons to switch over:

1. I wanted more freedom.

2. I don't feel the monoply Miscrosoft has is right.

3. I wanted to use a OS thats is innovative.. not one that copies its two biggest competitors and makes people(n00bs) beleive they are innovative.

4. I don't have the money to buy a new OS every year because Microsoft feels they need more money.

5. Wanted to try something new.

6. Tux is cool.

7. Linux is open source... and open source software is cool.

8. I want to gian more knowelege about computers. (And what better way then to use a Computer Gurus OS , aye?)

9. To be able to make lists like this...

Well thats it. I think I'll edit if I think of more and they arn't in the right order... Number 7 should be close to 1 tongue.gif

I think that I'll probably just stick with Windows XP. It works just fine, does everything I need it to, plus being Windows there's always plenty of choice when it comes to software and hardware. Personally I really don't see any real reason to switch to Vista when it comes out mainly because from what I've seen it just looks like a real graphically goofy looking OS anyway.

Another thing is Microsoft will continue to support XP for some time to come. At the moment they still support Windows 2000, even though it's been 6 years since it first came out. So with that in mind, XP will continue to be a relevant OS for a few years more.

As for Linux, well it's an interesting OS for sure, however any time I've tried it in the past there has always been niggling little things about it that irked me, just annoying things in general. But hey that's just me, if it works for you then more power to you. cool.gif

Well ... if M$ really does keep XP alive ... then you are absolutely right, there is no need to switch to Vista as long as this support continues .... but the support will end one day ... and then you will have to choose. yahoo.gif

One important thing you should know about Window$ is how to delete the "really hidden files" that contain every site you have ever visited in IE ... and the registry keys containing duplicates of these ... oh and your old e-mails ... and you should know that Find Fast indexes every file on your computer ... so you might want to remove it too ... here are details on how to do all this:

(This is purely informational ... I don't have anything against M$ ... but I'll never use it again) yahoo.gif ... this smilie is cool yahoo.gif

Index.dat Suite does the job of finding and removing *all* the index.dat files. I usually just run it once a month.

As for Find Fast, well I don't have MS Office installed so it's not a problem. However if I did then it can be disabled:

XP is ok for me. I will keep it as long as I can.

Dont wanna switch to Vista. Taking too much control of everything.

I dont have enough information about Linux and other OS to discuss about it.

But in the future I think I should check them out.

Before using Vista I`ll try another one.
