Ive been backing-up my data using Cubian backup manager, the thing is ive been doing this for a while and my hdd is kinda getting a strain :Splitting the backups and saving them onto DVD is a feasible solution ,tried it once ,but i couldin't retrieve all my data. secondly the split files cannot be merged together to make a zip retreavable file,
anyone with solutions!!! PLZ help

win-zip is out of the Question coz it can't work with less than 4GB:

Note .RAR files are not compatible with Cobian-unzipper

Z-Zip Supports:
* Packing / unpacking: 7z, ZIP, GZIP, BZIP2 and TAR
* Unpacking only: CAB, ARJ, LZH, CHM, Z, CPIO, RPM and DEB

TUGZip Supports:
ZIP, 7-ZIP, A, ACE, ARC, ARJ, BH, BZ2, CAB, CPIO, DEB, GCA, GZ, IMP, JAR, LHA (LZH), LIB, RAR, RPM, SQX, TAR, TGZ, TBZ, TAZ, YZ1 and ZOO archives.
And can create: 7-ZIP, BH, BZ2, CAB, JAR, LHA (LZH), SQX, TAR, TGZ, YZ1 and ZIP archives.


Both are freeware.


I will try to find you another backup manager too.

You mean Cobian Backup right?

Have you tried latest version 7.1.0.284? The bug that prevented the program to decrypt files of size larger than 2Gb has been fixed. Not sure what you mean hard drive understrain? You mean it is getting full I assume.
Note: The FAT32 file system has a 4 GB limit for the size of file that it can accept to be saved onto it.

Why would you want to split files in first place? Making huge archive files can be disaterous and time consuming if they can't be retrievable. Just use a backup solution to portable media, partition or external hard drive. Most software also allow compression.

Here's a freeware file-splitting program ... it makes an executable rather than a batch file ... so it's easier to put things back together:
