Hi folks, does anyone knwo if it's possible to save the streams coming infrom Moviefone so you can play them later? Although I was working from a Mac, while playing a clip that had streamed in, I did a system search for the newest files and notice one ID'd with an unintelligible name the was 92 megs. I figured this was the video data and copied it.

I renamed it to file.mov and tried to ply it but I get a message the says:

"QuickTime cannot open the file: "bbb-spoof.mov"
it is not a file that QuickTime understands (-2048)"

I copied the file over to a PC and installed QT-Alt hoping it might play it, but no go. sad.gif So is there a way to do this? Is the data not a QT file, even though it originally played in a QT window (on the Moviefone page)on the Mac? I'm using Netscape 7.2 on a Mac G5 with 10.3.9.

Thanks for any help with this.

I have no idea what moviephone is. I assume it's streaming media entertainment section of AOL Time Warner?
http://movies.aol.com/

Doesn't look like a quicktime windows to me. wink.gif AOL uses its own proprietary plugin component for the brower:

I didn't bother installing the ActiveX control, but it doesn't look like quicktime format. Personally I stay away from AOL crap. Have you tried Real media, Apple or Windows Media Showcase for downloading trailers? yahoo:

Yes, that's what I'm talking about. Well, that's how it came up at the Mac I deal with at work.
That link came up blank, but yes, that's the whole point of this thread.

The particular piece is over at the the Movefone site. It's an indie under the SHORTS listing. Basically what I need to know is if there is a way I can play this stream back independently as a standalone piece. I imagine AOL is using some variation of an existing codec, and I'm wondering if anyone's figured out how to unlock it.

I went back to the site and recaptured the file. It downloads into the system's QT cache folder, and has an extension .qtch

Don't know if this is any help. Thanks.

Please use quote button since that is the purpose of it. wink.gif

Only meant to show you the origin and that it is an AOL activeX control. Certainly won't work on Mac OS.

I assume under SHORT FILM.. SELECT A SHORT ? What you are suggesting is capture protected content and save to your hard drive.
Yes, likely using AOL controls with existing media container. Well, viewing source code does help narrow it down.
AOL short film are being streamed from -http://nsvapp-prod-rr.stream.aol.com if that helps you.

However, we don't condone hacking (if that's what you are suggesting) or unlocking protected content from web servers anyway.
Maybe try searching for the short film on another site? Good luck! wink.gif

Yeah, unfortunately it's not on anyother site. No problem tho, I figured out how I'm going to get it.

By the way, the quote boxes are overkill.
