Hi all,
I have a problem with playing back WMV files on Media Player Classic. They used to work just fine but lately, it comes up with the following message JUST on WMV files. I've googled and googled and googled some more, installed codecs, un-installed codecs (which has probably made it worse), but to no avail. If anyone has any ideas, any help would be great. This one's racking my brain!
This is the following message:
Media Player Classic could not render some of the pins in the graph, you may not have the needed codecs or filters installed on the system.

Have you tried playing it on WMP10 with latest windows media codecs?
Also, make sure you have the latest directshow installed.

I've tried installing WMP10 but apparently I can't cos I'm running Win 2k (yes yes i know, time to upgrade!) so I'm stuck with WMP9 series. How do I go about getting the latest directshow?
Thanks!

Maybe some Win. media codecs are broken
You may reinstall them:

or/and
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Codec_..._Player_6_4.htm
Well directshow... you need latest DirectX 9c (if not installed).

That id is for plain old pcm audio. You most probably do have a broken install. It happens more often then it should. Usually by installing one of those monster all in one codec pack messes. Try using FFDshow and enable the pcm in it, then set the the priority to high to force windows to use it, instead of any thing else you may have installed. If this works I would say repair your windows install, but first remove all extra codecs you may have loaded. For what it's worth, FFDshow has gotten ALOT better than it used to be, and is pretty reliable, just use the correct version for your particular CPU. Many of the available codecs use the same base code anyway, (open source that is). So you actually have a better running system than with a ton of miss matched codecs vying for a spot. The codec packs tend to install all the codecs with the same priority, so it takes windows alot longer to hunt down and find the correct one to use. Plus FFDshow decodes most audio you will come across as well. I never used it in the past, but now install it on all systems we build. Neat clean setup, and no contention between the codecs.
luck!
