www.workspot.net is a site that let's people buy virtual accounts on Linux box's for storage and testing and the what not... but they have a demo that lets you try out Linux for free, remotely(over your internet connection without installing anyhting, but Java... you probably already have that.)!

Pretty neat thumbsup.gif ... wonder how they do that through java ... I guess I tend to underestimate the power of Java biggrin.gif

The real thing, when installed on your computer will definately be faster ... the speed of the java implemented version is comparable to that of a live version on a boot CD ... the speed of the real version depends on your distro, on the desktop environment, on your computer hardware, and even on individual programs, but it will always be faster than a live version ... I suppose the java version is a type of live implementation isn't it ? smile.gif

Note: some distros run faster and better on some sytems than others, so there is no objective fastest distro ... you should try out a few and see which one you like best ... since most are free as long as you have a broadband connection, you can certainly afford to do so thumbsup.gif and you can order DVDs online for a minimal cost, far less than say XP, or at least a useable version of XP biggrin.gif

I think this is awesome... I wonder if this is AJAX... And of course it would be faster on your dedicated PC running from YOUR HDD. It is slow for tons of reasons:

1. You are using it remotely... It is being sent through your internet connection wich is probably delayed at least 1/2 to a secound or two.

2. This is a demo of THEIR sevice... it's not ment to be a demo of Linux... they either have this running on a crappy PC or more then 1 person is accessing the same PC...

3. The system is probably using a lot of resources using whatever it uses to keep geting the GUI ,converting it to whatever, and then uploading it, and showing it on your computer screen.

Etc...

I am amazed that someone spent the time around this idea to get it working... JAVA and AJAX is pretty awesome! thumbsup.gif Linux can do so much... it's overwhelming.

P.S. Hehe that just made me think of a cheat from Starcraft... type Power Overwhelming and you become invinclible... Good times good times... but that's no fun. Cheaters SUCK... unless you play GTA then it's fun! happy.gif
