Line 21 decoder filter in Media Player Classic [solved]

Hello,

I love using Media Player Classic when it comes to watching DVD movies, but I am trying to figure out how to get the Line 21 decoder filter, located in the External Filters, to work. It is the line 21 that make closed captions appear on screen (black bars behind white letters as you seen on TV). This is not the same thing as subtitles. I've been trying to make it work for several months and I am running out of ideas.

This is why I am here, hoping someone would step forward and shed light in making the closed captions appear on movies. I'm pretty desperate because I am hearing impaired and seeing closed captions on Media Player Classic will make my life 100% complete! yahoo.gif

Thanks for listening. bye1.gif

No, there is no need to "bump" topic by replying to yourself. rolleyes.gif

Never used any external filter overrides so not sure how this Line 21 decoder activates. I assume you have to use Overlay Mixer (set under OUTPUT). Perhaps have to set media type or subtype.

Don't suppose you tried Zoom Player or PowerDVD that have caption support? I know GraphEdit in conjunction with DVD player is supposed to work: http://www.geocities.com/mcpoodle43/SCC_TO...DVD_FILTER.HTML

Sorry I can't be much help.

Hey this is better than nothing. THanks for stepping forward.

Anyway, I do have a question about "mediatype" and "subtype". How does they work? I do see them in filters but don't know what to make of them. Maybe that is the key in solving the Line 21 decoder filter. It does ask the mediatype and subtype but I do not know the numbers to put on. Is there a documentation explaining what mediatypes and subtypes are for?

I'll give the Zoom Player a try as you suggested. I just like Media Player Classic better because it's quite powerful and has all the flexiability to adjust to your preferences. Maybe Zoom Player may be the answer I've been looking for? We will see.

Thanks for the tips though!

Both quite good. peace.gif
Zoom player is just as powerful especially if you use the WMV/PRO version.
I find it has better plugin support, help section and interface, but that's just my opinion.

Fantastic!

You're damned right. Zoom Player is truly awesome!

Both, the Line 21 decoder and the subtitles, are working flawessly.

Not only that, but there were other features in the Zone Player such as color adjustments and resizing movie screen to fit your tastes that I find it very useful.

I'm impressed! thumbsup.gif

I really appreciated your help in this. I'll be using the Zone Player from now on. In fact, I just paid for registration so it won't longer be a trial version.

Again, many thanks and you have a happy Thanksgiving! drinks.gif
