Guys,
I'm writing to you as a last resort. I've got a really weird problem with the MP3 decoder on my machine.
It works fine on 128kbps, but creates awful artifacts (crackle) with ALL 320kbps mp3s. It is not a perfomance problem (the CPU load is less than 5% during playback) and isn't a disk issue either.
I blame the decoder. I tried many of the packs on this site but the did not change anything. Perhaps the pesky mp3 decoder has somehow survived. How can I find what's being used to decode 320kbps mp3s on my machine and get rid of it/swap an alternative driver in?
The soundcard I use is an ESI Juli@ 24/192. AthlonXP 2500+, 1GB RAM, new-ish WD HDD.
Below I provided a short example I recorded into Audacity, you can actually hear what the crackles sound like since it decoded straight into the wav output!

(300kb MP3 at 128kbps, recording the output I get from my codec setup)
If anyone can help me track this bastard down and kill it, I'll be SUPER grateful!
Satai.

Maybe these 320kbps MP3 have copy protection. Also, what app and decoder are you using?
You should be ripping to PCM 44.1KHz, 16bit WAV to be safe.
