hi:
i am planning to create a tv site on the inernet
my background is in film and have moderate computer knowledge
just found out about 264 which would compress the videos to a smaller megabyte
i just went to a site to download the codec for free.
i use windows media and most of my customer will probably have windows media
does this 264 work with windows media?
is this free download any different from purchasing an encoder
any help would be great
roma
not sure if i even asked the correct questions
i have uploaded videos to my website presently and as most- they buffer until they are uploaded completely/
how will the new technolocy make this better?

I assume you mean H264 codec? Several players like QuickTime 7 features this state-of-the-art video codec called H.264....delivering the same quality as MPEG-2 at a third to half the data rate and up to four times the frame size of MPEG-4 Part 2 at the same data rate.
H264 should be able to be played in Windows Media player as long as you have the decoder. I like MainConcept, but there several commercial developers like Moonlight out there. The problem is they tend to be proprietary so mixing & matching them can be a problem.
As far as free decoders.. you can get pick the open source X264 version or try using FFDSHOW.
