Quicktime Alternative replaces QT full version

Hello,

I have the paid version of Quicktime (version 6) installed on my computer. I don't like it much, but my new digital camera saves video clips in QT (as well as Mpeg, and a few other formats. it's an Olympus C-770)

I have read the download explanation for a program called Quicktime Alternative version 1.66. One thing it says is that it's not as huge a space hog at the regular QT program, and will play video on any computer ect ect.

I need a video program that is easy to use. I have a web site and need video clips on that site for customers to view. I also would rather have a video program player that won't take up huge amounts of space on my computer, and this QT Alternative looks good.

I would like to know if anyone else has seen this program, tried it and wether or not you need to uninstall the regular QT Player before downloaded the alternative.

Thank you very much...hope someone can help.

No it's not a player, it's a stripped down codec package to be used with a Directshow player.
It has been around for many years and doesn't contain spyware or extra bloat associated with Quicktime.
Keep in mind it doesn't have all the features like its "bigger brother". wink.gif

P.S. Yes, recommend uninstalling Quicktime first and doing a clean install.

biggrin.gif Hello and thank you so much....

Now I think I may be confused!! Is the QT alternative able to play video? Is it a regular video player like Qt or Media Player? Would I be making a mistake to download the QT alternative, to find out I still need the regular QT Player?
Actually, I wish I didn't need QT at all...I rather like the good old Media Player, but I am not sure it's all I'd need to get the video clips from my camera to my computer and then downloaded to my web site!!

I mus apologize for seeming quite stupid...but this video stuff really confuses me.
Can you add more detail to help me more...thanks so much!!

Quote from QuickTime Alternative page:
QuickTime Alternative will allow you to play QuickTime files (.mov, .qt and other extensions) without having to install the official QuickTime Player. It also supports QuickTime content that is embedded in webpages....

Components: Media Player Classic, QuickTime Codecs, QuickTime plugin for Internet Explorer...

euromix,
Thank you. I feel really stupid blush.gif because I am still not sure what to do. I think blink.gif the QT Alternative would allow my web site customers the ability to view a video clip from my web site with any player they have installed on their computer?
I don't need the huge regular QT player installed....just install the QT alternative and I should be Ok for getting the video clips from my camera, to my puter and then to my web site??
And I can use media Player as the video player on my web site pages?

Please be patient yahoo.gif with me...I said it before...I don't really understand this video stuff...I am trying to learn as thumbsup.gif best I can.

Thanks and look foward to more help with this before I give it a try!!!

Your customers can view mov videos only if they have a player with support for mov files (QuickTime or QuickTime Alternative); but first you have to embed the files in your webpage(s). Here are few QuickTime embedding tutorials

smile.gif Euromix,
Thanks sooooo much!!
I copied & saved the embedding codes and I think I'll give all this a try. I think as I go along I'll figure it all out.
If I have any problems...I'll give a shout!!
Thanks again.
