FDD Show and Media Player Classic - Best Quality Settings

Hello.

I'm a bit of a newbie here. I've known a bit about codecs and such for a while, but I decided I'd update my codecs to improve my multimedia experience.

I installed a new version of the k-lite mega pack. I also installed ffdshow, because I had heard it could really help with quality. I think it may actually come with k-lite, but I installed it just to make sure it was up to date. And I am using Media Player Classic.

When I opened the settings, I was surprised to see how many options there were, and I'm a bit confused. Having played with a little, I know that they can definatley make a difference, but I have no idea which ones offer the best quality.

I'm basically a casual video viewer on my computer. I have a collection of music videos, but I rarely use the computer for any kind of feature-film viewing and I usually sit right at the monitor when watching videos.

Most of the videos I watch are AVI files in divx or xvid format, but there is also a lot of wmv stuff out there as well as mpeg-1/2 videos.

I'm basically wondering what settings I can use to do the following:

1. Maintain the best sharpness and clarity of video
2. Reduce the "blockyness" or other artifacts of compression. Obviously this cannot be done 100%, but if I could make them less obvious that would be great.

3. Play the video bigger than it is without it looking bad. A lot of videos are only very low resolution, so I enlarge the window. I would like it to be scalled in a manner that results in as little graininess or pixilation.

4. I have CRT monitors. I run them at 1280x1024 resolution. I am wondering what the best deinterlacing settiuns for this is

5. I am not sure if noise reduction is something I need to worry aout, because most of the videos are dvd rips or soemthing that doesn't have a lot of noise

I realize there are guides online for ffdshow, but I've found them to be a little contridictory or otherwise difficult to understand.

Anyone who could give me some guidence would be appreciated

-Steve

I suggest you to read YDY's English documentation for Media Player Classic from Guides section. wink.gif
