I installed the k-lite codec pack FULL because it comes with the mpeg-2 codec. I uninstalled first the Basic version, and as the Standard version doesn't come with the mpeg-2 codec, i choosed the FULL version.

This way my winamp is able to play the sound of files that require the mpeg-2 codec. But the image is not showing.

In windows media player, it plays the file with sound and image.

can you guess why winamp is not showing the image?

When i play the file with Winamp or WMP, the ffdshow icon appears on the system tray
I'm using the latest winamp version, 5.12

i opted to uninstall the k-lite codec pack FULL, and i installed the Basic version back, because the "normal" mpg files were not showing the image in winamp anymore.

which is the best mpeg-2 codec??

should i install the FFDShow MPEG-4 Video Decoder separeted from the k-lite codec pack full? - i read here http://www.free-codecs.com/download/FFDShow.htm that ffdshow is used for mpeg-2 too..

dont use ffdshow for mpeg2!!! and winamp have some problem with some video ! dont know why but i recommande you to download "The core media player" its a good player , it use ffdshow if installed and play most of the format if you have the codec!!
(nero mpeg2 need the nero mpeg2 codec witch is not include in most of the codec pack!!and wmp use some strange microsoft codec its probabli why it can read it!)

ok. thanks for the explanation. I'll check this player

I uninstalled the k-lite codec pack basic, and now i'm using the XP codec pack, which solved the problem for winamp

Yes, Winamp is bit flaky for video, but it makes a good versatile audio player.
Glad you got it resolved. thumbsup.gif
