I tried looking for a codec cleaner the last time I was here, about a week back but I didn't find one, but I do have two ideas for that one.
One, if you went out and downloaded and then installed a codec by way of an .exe it might have made and uninstaller. Check your add and remove program. If you find them, great.
Secondly, which is a bit harder, and some would consider a bit messy would be to install a mega codec pack like K-lite, then uninstall it, then install just what you need from the same pack. I’m suggesting K-lite because that is the one I use and I know that it does what I’m talking about.
One, I'm guessing it would over write any codec that you already have that you tell it to install, so when you uninstall it, it will take them away. Also, when you reinstall just the ones you want, it will let you know about any broken codecs it finds and lets you delete them from the reg. at the end of the install.
That's my two cents for that part of the problem.
Now as for unnecessary, that is completely up to you. A program wouldn't know what codecs you need or don't need.
Now if the codec clean up went well, and you installed the ones that you needed your movie should work fine, and if you choose the option to use Classic player, it will play full and widescreen.
I thought that Windows Media Player played them that way too?? I used it watch some wide screen vides and I didn’t have an issue.
