Hi all,
here is the description of the problem:
installed setup:
XP home
media player 10
core media player
matroska pack (full 1.1.2)
PROBLEM:
when matroska pack is the last installed, the mkv movie i'm trying to watch (is h.264 BTW) runs perfectly under the core media player, with all subtitle streams available, but if I open an XVID movie which has a subtitle file in the Media Player 10, the movie doesn't start playing, and any attempt to press play gives me no audio or video. (DIVX movies with subtitles work fine). If i remove the subtitle file, the movie works perfectly.
If I install vobsub 2.23 over the matroska, the media player 10 works fine, but the Core media player says that some of the streams in the h.264 mkv file are in an unsupported format, and although it displays the subtitle streams, it doesn't display the subtitles.
This is resolved if I reinstall the Matroska, at whic point the XVID movies with subtitles stop working again.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance, Marvin.

Hello.
My suggestion as simple as it may be would be to find a player that would replace me having to use two players, and get a codec pack that would install the codecs I would need.
First you would have to uninstall the ones that you have. Other then MS player 10, your other player and the codecs that you installed.
K-lite Full comes with all the codecs I've ever needed and with a player. Media Player Classic that plays my subtitles just fine.
Granted I've have used it to play mkv files yet, but you can tell me how that all works out.

I have the Storm Codec Pack and the Matroska Pack for MKVs.
I find that MPC does a better job than VLC when it comes to subtitle tracks with embedded fonts. Media Player Classic with that combination will use the embedded fonts, VLC won't. I've found this to be important on one occasion with a fansub that contained text displayed vertically, in VLC, the text went off the screen and VLC crashed, MPC used the embedded fonts and carrying on playing. VLC does a better job with broken AVIs though inthat MPC won't play them and VLC will
I tend to avoid WMP like the plague though, MPC is far better and far lighter.
