Hi, my mp3s began to hack in Windows media player 10 after i re-installed windows xp, this is very annoying.
I have tried winamp and other mediaplayers with no luck.
The only player that can play them without any hacks is Mediaplayer classic.
But I would like to be able to play them in WMP 10 cause I like the controls and feel comfortable with that player.
Would be very grateful for any help I can get to solve this problem.
Thanks.

Hi, check your audio drivers are installed and configured properly, test DirectSound.
In WMP10, go to Tools/Options then click 'Devices'. There should be your audio device, see the properties, you may change which device to use as output.
Verify whether there is a problem with MP3 or other codec/filter using GSpot (see under System/List Codecs and Other Filters). Install MPEG Layer-3 Decoder if necessary.
In WMP10, go to Tools/Options then click 'Devices'. There should be your audio device, see the properties, you may change which device to use as output.

Hi. This is strange, when I played them through g-spot there where no stuttering hacks.
But when I tried to play them as usual they began to hack again. I had the codec you suggested and re-installed it but it didn't help.

WMP is pretty bloated, intensive. Expensive workaround to get another hard drive, but whatever works for you.
Next time make sure you defrag your hard drive and perform regular maintenance on your computer.
That could have been part of the problem with bottleneck.
