No audio when playing dvd or capturing video [SOLVED]

I'm having a problem that I can't seem to figure out or anyone else for that matter. I have no audio when playing a dvd unless i use VLC, nothing with Media player or InterActual. I also have no audio when I use my AverTV 2.0 USB capturing device with all of the programs including VLC. I am really new to this codec thing so I read the blogs and many recommended g-spot. But I'm not sure how that can help me since this is a problem with files not stored on my harddrive. Does anybody have any suggestions..............

Do you have AC3 decoder? AC3 filter is great for example.
