Hi,

Does somebody know why I can open some .mpg, but I cannot open them all?

It is annoying. I thought it could help downloading some codecs but I did not succeed.

I have a couple of movies waiting to be seen.... Thanks

Well different MPEG versions and compressions. MPEG 1 and 2 are the most popular.
DVD software player like WINDVD/PowerDVD will play them so no need to install lots of codecs.
VideoLAN Client (VLC) is another great general player that works. wink.gif

Hi,
Although I installed the VideoLan Client, I am not able to play them yet. I keep having the same problem. Downloaded mpg movies don't want to be played.
Surprisingly I am able to play some mpg but not the majority.

Mate!
I think I really need some help, cause I am totally lost. I thought that running the Gspot could help to identify the problem, so I did it. Gspot answered that 'DirectShow claims to be able to play the file'. As I did not know what DirectShow is, I decided to download it. I found on the Internet that DirectShow is a part of DirectX. Being part of Microsoft I thought that I could trust this Directx stuff and I installed it. I still don't know what it is or does but what I know is that it did not help. Should I remove this DirectX? Do I need to get my pc checked? Or everything is fine?
I would really appreciate a hand in this moment. Thanks

GSPOT only works really for AVI files.

No worries. You were smart to d/l MS Direct X required for most games and multimedia to enhance your videocard capabilities. Orig WINXP came with DirectX8.1, but newest is 9C.

Not sure what OS you have, but MPEG should run natively on WINXP with DirectX support within WMP.
They are valid files, right? HAve you tried other MPEG movies?

Sure I have!!

Let me explain myself. I just got broadband and started downloading media (just movies and music). I play these files with DivX 6.1. (for .avi) and WMP 10 (for .mpg).
The .avi files work fine. The .mpg, though...Some are corrupted, some work fine, but lots are not corrupted and yet I cannot play them.

How do you see it? wink.gif
