Please help if anyone can. Bascially, and i think this usually happens with MPEG files, the video will play for a few seconds then it freezes in place, but the audio will carry on. Some MPEGS it will happen to and some it won't. Using VideoInspector, the codecs are the same between those that do work and don't work, so i'm stumped. Help please!!

The problem can be that the MPEG decoders are broken or not fully functional.
Try to install/reinstall. ...however I don't know which codec is used by the player to decode MPEGs on your machine. So a codec pack (not an unnecessarily big one) might help.
Codec Pack All In 1 for example.
You may also succeed (without reinstalling codecs) using BSPlayer or VLC.
Another thing, when the problem is with the file itself. The reason can be that the MPEG header contains wrong information. Type in Google: "fix mpeg", you'll find some solutions (a prog. "MPEG header corrector" or sg. like that).
TMPGEnc can also be used to edit/analyze/correct MPEG files.
