Hello.
I've been using Media Player Classic as my primary media player for a while, because I love the configurability of it. I've also been using the ffdshow and ffmpeg codecs for mpeg-4 decoding, as they seem to do the best job.
However, I've noticed that it sometimes can be slow to seek on certain files, especially unindexed WMV files. Since these files are not designed for fast seeking, I've always assumed it was just the nature of the beast and that I'd have to reencode them with more key frames if I wanted better seeking.
However, I've noticed that when I play the same files with VLC player, the seeking (though not imediate) is much faster. I can move to almost any position on the video and it will quickly render the video. Much quicker than Media Player Classic, which sometimes takes several seconds.
My question is this: Since I want to keep Media Player Classic as my main player (because it supports some filters I really like), is there anything I can do or any settings I can adjust to make it preform better when rendering video after seeking within a file?
Basically...I'm wondering what VLC does differently than Media Player Classic which gives it the edge.
Many thanks
-Steve
