Touble Running and installing windows media player File errors while trying to initiate or installing windows player

I recently upgraded my PC from 2k to xp and i am having a hard time trying to get windows media to work.

Everytime i try to use it i get an error and if i try to install a new version it does not work iether.

This is the error signature

AppName: wmplayer.exe AppVer: 10.0.0.3646 ModName: wmnetmgr.dll
ModVer: 10.0.0.3646 Offset: 00008a40

and this is the file that is attached to the error.
C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\294e_appcompat.txt

If someone could help me I'd really appriciated.
