Hi guys,

I tested this with 2 laptops one friend's and another is mine. I play a VCD(*.dat) with Media Player 10. The movie has two different language (Chinese and Cantonese). When I play it using my pc I can select to play with both channels, left or right only channels.

I insert the same VCD into my pal's pc but it has only 1 audio channel. And I cant seem to enable the option I had in m PC. We both also using the same Media Player 10 (Latest)

Any of you guys know how to enable the feature?

Thanks

Your pal likely only has one mono speaker. Did you go through multimedia properties to configure speaker(s)?

Well wasn't clear what you have on orig post.

Should be using PowerDVD/WINDVD to play DVD/VCD/SVCDs (not the DAT file) although WMP will work.

Do both speakers works on other applications?

Go into Adjust Audio properties...Volume tab...Speaker volume...
Check that both speakers (left and right) are turned up. Check the volume controls..if they are internal/external speakers

Ohhh, let me explain...

Some VCD has a few language, for example Chinese and Cantonese. In my laptop... When I play using WMP10 you enlarge the screen (Full screen mode), right click on the movie area you have something call Audio and Language Tracks. Under the menu you have something call Both Channels (Using both sides of the sound), Left Channel and Right Channel. I do not know what I did to enable this feature. Maybe some of you guys know..

Btw if you use both channels you can hear cantonese and chinese simultaneously, left for cantonese and right for chinese.

Ahh.. sorry misunderstood. you mean audio language tracks...not physical channels. wink.gif

Don't have much experience playing audio multi-tracks within movie files except for subtitles.

Under WMP 10... Have you tried rt-click mouse...Audio language tracks...change defaults ?

Ohh.. That doesnt relate to my problems =(

To make things very very clear, we both have the same laptop (build in speaker). In my WMP10 I will see Both Channels, Left and Right Channels as well as Defaults (No idea what this does or even relate to eh audio tracks I'm talking about) options under the Audio and Language Tracks menu. But on my pals there aren't such options, she only has Defaults. I'm just wondering how can I activate the options for him?

Hi!

You may verify and compare the settings of WMP10 (audio settings, plugins...).
And check out/compare Windows Control Panel's Multimedia/Audio settings.
Also be sure you're both using the same audio driver, when same laptop/speakers.

All I can suggest is using slightly diff versions. I have vers 10, build 3646, but dont have anything like channels under audio &language tracks..options.

Maybe check Help --> about Windows media player.

Like CHP says... compare the settings. unsure.gif

...And i just checked... Morgan Stream Switcher could help you.
Has WMP9 support but maybe works with WMP10 too... unsure.gif

Sorry to let you guys down =/

Actually.. I'm not a total noob when it comes to computer! I did compare to the different codecs I have in my PC and hers, installed alot more on hers now. She has 31 and I have 27 audio codecs.

I checked what audio codecs she used to play the VCD files.. It was Morgan Switcher so was mine.

I installed all the different programs I had in her laptop such as fddshow and etc etc...

I checked all the settings before.. Tweaked with it.. Experiment with it! Nothing works, I set her speaker to Stereo Desktop and whoa tons others.. I even try to replicate the same settings I had on her pc.. Not working either.

Nothing WORKED!! That's why I make a post on the forum. The only difference I'm noticing is the version of my WMP and hers. Mine's 10.00.00.3646 and hers 10.00.00.8xxx. I tried to update mine to her version using he build in Auto Update and it tells me I have the latest blink.gif And I dont want to remove mine and redownload the thing from the internet.

I SERIOUSLY tried everything to my knowledge but I STILL cant bloody get it. *Sigh*
It's not really that big of a problem since I had a "solution" to let me listen to whichever audio stream I wanted. But I just dont bloody get it how the heck can I activate that feature on her laptop. This really puzzles me, when she was WMP9 she had that feature.. She upgrade to 10 it's not there anymore..
