Newbie MMH Cleaner thought

I just installed the free version and checked it out.
First, I love the simplicity because I know very little about how programs work.
I've just managed to re-install WIN XP because something got in and totally screwed the computer.
Starting fresh, I 've decided to try and protect the computer and right from the start minimize the amount of stuff that piles up no matter what you do.
After installing MMH, the first thing I did was scan for Junk files. It found 17.
Looking over the list I found that I had no idea what these things were and given the option to select them for deletion, didn't know which to check. So I didn't check any and closed the program.
My thought is that maybe some sort of general definitions could be provided for the most commonlly found files or extensions, or some way to help the user decide which to mark for deletion.
I'll admit that if there had not been the option to choose, I probably would have accepted the programs decision to mark for deletion and just clicked "Delete" or whatever.
Some of the files found were:
brndlog.bak
~DFS20.tmp
defs.ref.old
REGLOCS.OLD
edb.chk
CONFIG.TMP
wpa.bak
I Googled a few of these but didn't really get any clear/simple indication of absolutely safe to delete or not.
Anyway, just a thought, because as a novice it's really hard to decide what to alter. I would think that a lot of people who choose this program don't know either.
Thanks for your time.

All files that appears in scan result are unused & temp files
Deleting these files will not affect your system

you can find more info about files extensions here.

Thanks for the reply and the link!
I'll have to rely on your experience and expertise as to handling the 'junk'.
To this super-novice, .bak (backup), .old (Old Version; sometimes used as backup indicator), and .chk (CHKDSK/SCANDISK Output) sound like they should be important.
With help from folks like you, I'll eventually get over my jitters and have lean and clean machine.
Thanks again. I'll try MMH Cleaner again and check out the other stuff it does.
If you see more posts from me, ("UH-OH, him again."), please reply.
