All of a sudden, my embedded windows media player has stopped displaying. (Instead of the player there is a blank screen with a cross on top where the video is suppose to be played - like a picture that has failed to load). Other .wmv files that were downloaded to my desktop work perfectly. Its only the ones embedded into websites. I am using Win XP SP 2, WMP 10 and IE 6.0. Anybody knows how to fix this? Thanks.

Here is an example link : http://www.stupidvideos.com/video/stunts/B...amp;p=1&y=0
A video should play right away when you goto this link.
I have attached an image of what happens when I try the exact same link mentioned above.
The attached image shows what happens when I try to view any video on a website that uses an embedded(within the webpage) windows media player on the webpage. Other embedded players work (only problems with WMP).
Please help!
Thanks

Are the necessary ActiveX controls and plugins enabled? (in Browser Settings/Security settings)
Is the filetype ASF associated with WMP10? (see in WMP's options)
Maybe your firewall blocks something??

Thanks for your responses.
All activeX control through IE is enabled.
All file types are valid.
Nothing is firewalled.
I searched in google and took an activeX test (http://www2.essex.ac...vac/activex.htm). There were two types of tests. One which displayed your current date and time and the other which displayed the stuff in the website I mentioned above. The date and time test worked perfectly. The test in the website mentioned above failed and looked like the screenshot I have attached.
Whatever it is, its now clear to me that the problem is realted to activeX.
How can I fix this activeX problem?
Thanks

All I can think of is about this "enabling/prompting Active scripting, ActiveX controls, and Java" in the browser's security options (custom level).
Have you updated Windows recently? Because it's possible some security update produces the problem (modified IE settings). Especially, if you're using the built-in XP firewall. But you said nothing was firewalled. So don't use any?
There would be another possible reason, if your DirectX was damaged somehow. You may try to (re)install the latest one.

How would you check what activeX codecs you have and how to enable them? I have a similar problem where I am trying to view and embeded video in a website but when the page loads there is no video. Instead there is an error pop up saying that I need to install an activex codec. when i try to install the codec it offers ( webvideo.exe ) nothing happens. I save the file and when i start it up nothing happens. what may be the problem? and how can I fix it?
