Random VOB files fail to read

I've been using DVD Shrink 3.5.4.0 for quite some time and it has been pretty successful at providig me with "backups". Every once in a while, I get a DVD that "encounters an invalid DVD format" when I try to read it. When that happens, I then move to DVD decrypter but I usually get one VOB file that just won't read....after 20 or 30 retries, the program exits and that DVD is not able to copy.

Is there a newer software program that might overcome some newer type of encryption??

I have found that the usual reason I cannot copy something with DVD Decrypter after many tries, as you describe, is because the disk has a scratch or something that corrupts the file. I then found that DVDFab Decryptor, a free program from dvdidle (see http://www.dvdidle.com/free.htm), would do the job. At first I used to keep using DVD Decrytor, which has more options, like picking which files to download whereas DVDFab Decryptor does only one thing, downloads the whole disk. But after a while I decided it wasn't worth the trouble to copy 3/4 of a disk just to have it hang up near the end, and now I use DVDFab Decryptor for all my DVD copying. The direct link to the program is http://209.172.35.173/download/DVDFabDecrypter29.exe. It's about 1.2 mB.

To add a little more detail:

DVDFab Decryptor seems to skip over the bad parts after taking time to try several times to copy them, like DVD Decryptor does. That's just my guess as to what is happening, because you don't see much of anything in the small program screen except a bar showing how much has been accomplished, but because it takes so long.

The finished product may then have a skip or two in the movie, but you get it. This seems analagous to what happens when you play such a disk in a DVD player -- there may be a skip or two but you get to keep watching the movie.

The long times I was experiencing when I first used DVDFab Decryptor I found out were only because I was just using it when DVD Decryptor wouldn't work at all. After I started using it all the time, I think it takes the same amount of time with a good disk as DVD Decryptor. Although I haven't done any actual time tests.
