firewall how to disable firewall

Greetings,
I have a toshiba laptop that was given to me from a local highschool
After installing yahoo messenger on it, it will not let me open it because I beleive it has a firewall blocking it since it come from the school I guess. It is windows 98..
How do i find wahat the firewall is and how do I disable it.

If you have an Admin account on the Laptop, you could check the 'Add/Remove Software' list for any well known names (Mcafee, Kerio, ect.).

If you dont see it there, it is very unlikely that a firewall is installed on the system. You can alway's scan the 'processess' tab in taskman if you know the process name.
