I'm having the same issue (black and white videos), and would appreciate help from those in-the-know. In the past my videos have always played straight off the bat, but I guess I'm missing something.

I've recently (being in the last two weeks) reinstalled Windows XP Home, and therefore lost whatever codecs I may have had (reason for the reinstall was simply bought a bigger hard drive). In the reinstall, I updated to WMP10 (standard Microsoft Update style).

I've not been able to see colour video since the reinstall. I've tried:
- Updating to the WMP11 beta
- Quicktime (for whatever codecs it might provide)
- Winamp
- DivX
- Xdiv

Just tonight (in the last two hours) I've tried two codec packs (though as per the sticky, I uninstalled the first when it didn't resolve my issues, so as not to overload on conflicting codecs).
- XP Codec Pack 2.0.4
- K-Lite (Full)

Each of these included the "Media Player Classic", which also played in black and white.

Interestingly, my Warcraft 3 videos were also in black & white (I notice Blizzard uses a DivX codec).

I'm unsure what to do; as far as I can tell from the tools K-Lite provides, my codecs are enabled and working. I'm not receiving any error messages that I can tell.

I don't know if the attached txt file (export of codec information from Sherlock) is helpful or not for you guys.

Many thanks for any advice you can offer - I'm totally stumped!

Edit: oh, and yes I have the latest drivers for my video card; as well as what I believe to be the latest DirectX. Unfortunately, possibly an unrelated issue, I was unable to play a trial version of Dungeons & Dragons Online... glitchy graphics that made me look like I was in "The Matrix"; yet my partner, who used the same downloaded install file (and has the same graphics drivers as me) was able to play it flawlessly. *sigh*

These kind of problems are usually related to the graphics card driver and/or its settings. So try installing a newer version of the driver and also have a look at your driver control panel. Perhaps some setting is wrong, for example brightness, contrast, etc. If you already have the newest version of your graphics card driver, then try an older version.

Thanks asdf!! Your advice was very useful and I found the problem in the settings of the driver in control panel.

Could you please share what setting in the Nvidia Card Driver it was. I have tried all of them and I can not get it to change from B&W. I am running 91.47 version.

Thanks
Greg
