No Windows XP system sound Intel Desktop Board D845PESV

A few days ago I've decided to uninstall BSPlayer, FFDShow and AC3Filter
and start using only VLC Media Player. After uninstalling, rebooting and
cleaning the registry I've noticed that VLC and Windows Media Player are
working correctly but my Windows XP doesn't play the Windows system
sounds. Also the sound icon disappeared from my task bar.

I've tried to install the audio codecs for my old Intel Desktop Board D845PESV
but this is what I get:

QUOTE
End of Interactive Support Announcement
These products are no longer being manufactured by Intel. Additionally, Intel no longer provides interactive support for these products via telephone or e-mail, nor will Intel provide any future software updates to support new operating systems or improve compatibility with third party devices and software products.

So now I can watch movies and listen to music via VLC or play America's Army but
can't hear anything i.e. while browsing.

Any1 knows how to solve this problem? crying.gif

I'm actually having a similar problem. I uninstalled xvid and suddenly found myself w/o sound in my internet browser and no sound icon in my taskbar. I also can't use my keyboard to adjust the sound anymore, but the sound works fine when I play mp3s or video files. I checked the Audio Codecs section in Device Manager, and discovered that I only had one audio codec while my roommate had like 8+. So I tried following the guide on free-codecs to reinstall the xp audio codecs, but it hasn't worked yet. Does anyone have any other suggestions? I've tried reinstalling the sound card drivers already, no dice.
