K-Lite Codec or FFDSHOW Codec ?

Greetings,
I have installed both of these, but i'm not much of an advanced user in codecs.
Could someone tell me which one of these are better and why?
Also, how do I install them and not ruin anything in the process?

There are many bad versions of ffdshow floating around on the net.

K-Lite Codec Pack also contains ffdshow (a good version) plus some other things you need to play certain fileformats.

K-Lite Codec Pack Standard is what you seek.
