Winavi problem with Divx codec.

Hi All

I've had a browse through the forum to see if this has already been dealt with but cannot find anything, but excuse me if it has.

I'm new to all this codec milarky and to be honest, I'm not sure I really get it...lol

Anyway...

I reformatted my PC a little while ago and I couldn't remember which codecs I had installed before to be able to watch/play .avi files on wmp. After reading the pinned notice on here.. I used GSpot to determine which ones to get. It recommended DivX. I installed DivX 6.2. All worked fine.

I then reinstalled Winavi so that I could convert the .avi files to dvd ready to burn. Worked fine for a couple of times but now it crashes when about 20% done. This is what happens...

An alert comes up for my firewall saying Winavi.exe is trying to execute dwwin.exe (dr watson).. if I deny it.. winavi disappears comepletely... if I allow it.. winavi crashes and I get the error box. If I 'send error report' it comes up with DivX codec being the problem.

(btw.. I disabled Dr Watson to see if that helped.. but it still came up with the same thing on the firefall).

I installed another converter program and the same thing happens.

Afte reading some posts on here again... I decided to try the K-lite pack instead... same thing happened although when it crashed and I sent for the error report.. I didn't get one.

Could there be something conflicting here? Has anyone else had this problem.

I'm desperate to get it sorted. sad.gif

Sorry for the long post... but I've learnt it's best to give as much info as possible... and if you're not all asleep by now.. laugh.gif I'd appreciate any advice on what to try next.

Georgie.

Are you using latest WINAVi converter 7.6 and DIVX 6.22? Dr Watson normally is executed when a program crashes and report is being logged/sent to Microsoft. Quite normal.

HAve you tried other movie files? Try reverting to other DIVX version, using XVID or FFDSHOW instead.

Thanks so much for your reply Mischcabob.

I installed Xvid and..................................

IT WORKED yahoo.gif

I was holding my breath for the last 30% because I thought it was sorted after installing the K-lite ones ... but it just waited until it got to 75% before crashing.

Hopefully thats the problem sorted.. I will keep a note of your other suggestions - just incase.

Thanks again thumbsup.gif
