Crash upon opening vidoes Possible codec problem

My WMP and sometimes explorer crashes when I try to open video files. I think its a bad codec or something...
I installed some avi converters right before I started having the problem, but I think I've uninstalled them completely yet I still get the same problem.
Also, explorer used to crash when I opened the folder containing already converted files, I ran cmd.exe and delted the file manually and I was able to open that folder again.

How do you mean "crashes"? Any error messages?
What kind of videos? AVIs?

Windows Media Player has encountered a problem then also Explorer has encountered a problem, with send error reports.
WinAVI, something like Cucu and another one I forget.
