Well, if bought from legit honest retailer there should be a certicate of authenticity.

If you got from oEM reseller, it's possible it was a pirated (keys are often stolen and activated by pirates) I would be tempted to go back to dealer..ask for another key and let them activate it for you. Otherwise, contact MS (with proof of purchase) and they will give you a key.

Well, i've read somewhere that Microsoft has announced: "you can't activate your windows XP using the internet more, cause of many illegal copies and activations".
But you need an XP with its key activated to get SP2...

So when it's not activated succesfully, maybe you'll need to call Microsoft's local service by phone or what... to activate, or to get a valid act.code and then activate.

You should have the SP2, to get any online support & updates in the future.

Your grammar is ok.
If your activation key is VALID, and you really have a LEGAL XP, you should be able to get SP2.
Software is owned by Microsoft, this problem can be solved by your reseller, or the local Microsoft Customer Service.

Well... activation and having legit key go hand in hand. MS have some anti-piracy measures with SP2 so even if activated with WINXP and SP1 version... it won't necessarily work. So if you got one of the black listed numbers, it won't allow you to install SP2.

If you want to pursue this matter through legal means, seek the dealer or MS for valid SP2 serial number; Otherwise, consider this discussion closed.

Basically your going to have to give microsoft or whoever you bought it from a call, tell them your problem, and hope they give you a fix or a new key.

Oh, and a discussion is never closed. wink.gif

Excuse me, Flyer.. you misunderstood. I meant that if he seeks illegal means that this discussion will be closed.

P.S. We don't condone discussion of cracking copyrighted software or piracy. wink.gif

Dapunisher, I was clarifying my previous post about discussion being closed only if you start discussing cracks, illegal means etc. You are minsing words and you failed to understand the context of my post. Why are you getting so hostile and defensive? dry.gif

You can continue "milking" this topic.. but believe me there only a few legal solutions. Several members have already made suggestions... maybe try acknowledging them and stop disrespecting others who are just trying to help. wink.gif
