I am virtually computer illiterate and too old to learn too many new things...But, I try hard.
I am hoping there is a very simple answer for my problem. It has driven me to tears.

I like to watch c-span on my puter and must have real player to do it.

OK, my problem. When I click on to watch anything on real player, I lose my internet connection. I am on cable. I have to unplug my modem and plug back in to get back my internet connection. I have tried several other players and did not have this problem, but, I can't watch c-span on them.

I uninstalled real player, reinstalled, still got disconnected. Today I heard about real alternative. People said they have less problems with real alternative. I was totally elated. I uninstalled real player, installed real alternative. Clicked on c-span...got disconnected from internet. I am in tears again. Totally frustrated and disappointed, once more.

Does anyone have any idea why I get disconnected from the internet whenever I try to play these "real" players?

I need a very simple explanation and remedy. If there is no simple solution, I will just hang it up.
