I downloaded a few asian movies, but when I try to watch them in Windows Media Player it keeps telling me that the player might not support the file type (it's .avi) or that it might not support the codec that was used to make the file.
I have Divx, Xvid, MPEG-4, and FFDShow.
Can anybody think of some codecs that I might need?

Thanks for the suggestion. Here's the results (I tried to read up on the site to just identify it myself, but I guess I'm just not tech savvy):
Type - application/x-ogg
IMRR - n.s.
I/L - Not supported
I tried to Render it, but it failed. The Video Codec section says that I have 3 codecs that say they can play it, but Render still failed. The DirectShow Render section says format not supported.

Didn't give us a lot of info from GSPOT. Are you sure extension is Ogg, not AVI format?
The audio portion may use OGG compression.. so likely won't play if don't have proper directshow filter installed.

May want to use alternative DirectShow player... WMP doesn't very well with 3rd party codecs.

Yeah, agree and we'd be glad to help you if you gave more details about this file (provided by GSpot).
I mean the information about the video stream: 4CC, Name, Installed codecs' name
audio: recognized and installed codec names
and the exact rendering error message...

I got a exactly same problem with him. I downloaded OGG compression, but it still didn't resolve the problem. See the screendump for more info in the GSpot.

And what player you use? Windows Media Player is not the best for OGM playback.
Try Media Player Classic, Zoom Player and VLC (VideoLAN Client).
Pls let me know, if solved
thx
