I've got Macromedia Director Mx 2004 - for authoring. While I know that many of the users of what we develop will have Real/ Quick Time, I'd rather not have them.
I've got QuickTime Alternative - and Director picks up that fine. However, it's not so happy with Real - and tells me that I've not got the player on - so won't let me use Real with it.
Has anyone got any ideas???

Don't follow you.. Have you tried Real Alternative and MPC as the default player?

I didn't explain very well did I?
I've got Real Alternative, and Windows Media Player Classic is set to play all media files. (So, WMP, QT, Real etc).
When I am using sites that use Real, it all works fine.
However, if I am authoring with Director, then when I try to add a Real File (or a RealStream) it tells me that it can't, as I don't have RealPlayer on the PC. (I don't).
So, I figure that Director must be looking for the evidence of RealPlayer, rather than the evidence of ability to play Real Files. (QuickTime is fine, it will incorporate QT Files, and knows that I can play them).
I've tried the Director forums, but they can't seem to understand that I don't want to have Real on the PC, and just tell me to install it.

MAc Director likely looking for the executable rather then using associated player.
Why don't just convert the RM (real media stream) to another format i.e. AVI, SWF etc.
Lots of converters will work.
Otherwise, might as well install Real player.. once you finish adding real stream you can uninstall and revert back to Real Alternative.
