I was just wondering why DivX 3,5 & 6 are all disabled by default ("playback only" selected during installation) when I go into ffdshow video decoder configuration? In addition, it says the same for MPEG2 when I selected "Cyberlink" during installation? Should it not say "libavcodec" under "decoder" for DivX and MPEG2?
Also does anyone know why VirtualDub & VirtualDubMod can't open AVI files (XVID mainly) when using K-LITE codec pack?
Cheers

DivX is disabled in ffdshow because you installed the DivX decoder. MPEG2 is disabled in ffdshow because you installed the Cyberlink MPEG2 decoder. All very logical.
To open files in VirtualDub you need VFW codecs. The 'playback only' profile does not install them. You can also use the ffdshow VFW interface instead. Enable the DivX and Xvid formats in its options.

I see, thanks for the explanation. However, I noticed that Xvid is deselected by default under DirectShow video filters, however is selected (checked) under VFW video codecs?? Why do you not need Xvid selected for DirectShow?

ffdshow has a little bit better decoding performance than the standard Xvid decoder.
