ffdshow VfW interface & VirtualDub

hi

dunno if anyone here can help
I've posed this question on an ffdshow-tryouts thread, but I'm not sure how much coverage that gets

http://ffdshow-tryout.sourceforge.net/phpB...topic.php?t=238

in any case,
I'm trying to understand the use of the VfW interface for ffdshow and how it relates to VirtualDub

it is my understanding that VirtualDub REQUIRES the VfW form of the codec/interface in order to allow it to be used

whilst I have configured ffdshow's VfW decoder properties to use libavcodec for XviD content, whenever I open an XviD file in VirtualDub, I don't see any evidence that ffdshow is being employed
(for instance, if I config the VfW properties to invert or mirror the image, I do not see that effect in VirtualDub - wheras, if I serve the SAME avi file to VirtualDub through AviSynth, I can achieve the visible mirroring/inversion IN VirtualDub through ffdshow's Video Decoder properties page)

any help or explanations please!

cheers

ps - I do also have Koepi's XviD codec installed - would that in some way override ffdshow's VfW configuration???
