Hi Everybody!
I'm developing an interactive CD-Rom for my Customer, which gave me some videos in AVI/DivX format.
My questions are:
- can I distribute in my CD-Rom the codec installer?
- is it possible to perform a silent installing of the codec, without the installation of the player?

Don't see why not. I make autorun dIVX/XVID cds (of course not for commercial use) that display auto launch menu giving user choice to install basic DIVX codec or watch movie.
XVID, (very similiar MPEG4 codec) is distributed under the GPL, so both the MSI and the files can be included.

Yes, it's possible to have silent install by using command lines. Better to have user input. I wouldn't want something installing without my knowledge.

Yes, i think it's possible too. Like creating a codec pack...
But i agree with Mischcabob, an (visible) installer (component) should be added so the customers can see, now :"What am i installing on my comp.?"

I only want to let the installation be copletly automatic... However I'll ask the authorization to my users.
My problem is that I think that the product is for commercial use, so I have to buy a license... But I can't understand what license!
I tried to contact www.divx.com, but I've understood nothing of what they wrote to me.
Now I've just downloaded another installation package from http://www.theorica.tk/... and it seems all free... but I can't understand if it's really free or not...
Please, help me...

Well should be safe for ffdshow filter, basic DIVX/XVID codecs bundled with these free "lite" codec packs distributed under GNU (general public license).
VLC (being cross-platform compatible open source player) would be good choice to use with its built-in proprietary codecs, but may want to check out website: http://www.videolan.org/
However, best to read the software license agreement upon install. Also, contact software developers to be sure.
