Hey, when ever I play an avi there is a tearing effect at the top of my screen. What I mean is there is a line that appears about an inch below the top of my screen that sort of looks like a Vsync issue in a video game or something. Can anyone help with this?

I am using:
K-Lite Mega Codec Pack
22" Samsung LCD
Windows XP
EVGA 7900

I got an issue thats similar to yours and have found no soloution
it only goes like this in k-lite, i have one of the recent builds and its never done anything like this before
its got some issues other than this like it cant loop a video as it freezes shortly after rewinding

Anyhow heres a screen cap of it

codecs appear to be fine as it works in window media player and G-Spot says i already have the codecs and their healthy

i know its not the SAME issue but i believe the solution would be some what the same

I love K-Lite and i don't want to use any other software
BTW you can see more screen caps here

Tearing is NOT a codec problem. It is a problem related to the hardware and drivers. Some video renderers are less susceptible to tearing than others. I recommend using Overlay Mixer or Haali renderer. You can change the renderer in Media Player Classic options, on the Output page.

DIGI_Byte, your problem is not tearing, but a decoding error. What type of video format is that?

thankx, I had no idea what was wrong. its WMV format
I dont think its a codec issue as Windows media player 9 can play it fine

video codec is =WMV3
Name=WMP v9 (VC-1 Simple/Main)

info -0x01:48000Hz 128 kb/s tot (2 chnls)
status =Codec Status Undetermined
although this MAY look suspicious it still plays fine in other players

Off-Topic Note: you cant seem to install K-lite with realplayer installed EVEN if you untick the real alternative

Check if VC-1 is enabled in ffdshow and if so, disable it. Then it will use the standard Microsoft decoder.

You should be able the install the pack even if RealPlayer is installed. If you are able to untick RA, it means you are already running the installer. So where does it go wrong? And if you are not using RA, then why don't just use the Full version instead of Mega?

well i found i was wrong, it is a codec issue, i went to windows and got an installer that contains WMV3 with some other codecs. after insalling i retried the video, it now plays without tearing... as much instead it turns some data into a purple or fluro green color resulting in color tinges, these are quite noticeable. there should be a program that automatically searches and installs every codec needed, maybe like a codec manager or something that talks with website that uses only aproved codecs....

still the hunt continues for the right codec...

I have installed k-Lite codec pack 3.6.5 full and it warned me that i have real player installed and so on, in the install list i went down and unticked the real alternative files and continued to install. It threw up an error, I think during the install process but maybe before. it wouldn't allow me to continue, so i removed real player 10 and and unticked the real alternative to install.
