Changing " Default Direct Show Video Output "

Hi Guys,

I have some problem in my pc regarding Codec.

I can't play any video in any media player except in "Windows Media Classic Player". In that player when I set the Playback Output to "VMR9 (renderless) " then it work flawlessly otherwise with other options not.

And the problem here is that the other media players like: Window Media Player 11, DivX Player, Winamp lack such a option to select "Direct Show Video Output Renderer", that means System Default renderer isn't working because that must be the codec which other players are using to play videos

So if you guys could tell me how can I change the "System Default Direct Show Video Output" to "VMR9 (renderless) " for all player then my problem will be solved.

Thanks a lot for your time and helping me out.

The player is called "Media Player Classic", it has nothing to do with Windows or Microsoft.

If the Overlay Mixer doesn't work properly, then it is likely a problem with your graphics drivers.

Thx for reply friend but I have tried installing new and old version of my graphic driver but to no avail.

Actually previously with "K-Lite Mega Codec Pack 1.61" I had no problem but when I upgraded it to newly released 2.01 version then this problem has occurred.

I can hear the sound for every single video but video doesnt appear (it's remains all black).

So pal could you please tell me how to assign "VMR9" to every player by default ?

Thx a lot for reply and I think with your help my problem will soon be solved. rolleyes.gif

In Windows Media Player there is an option called "HQ output" or something similar. That affects the renderer that is used.

But I recommend using Media Player Classic.

Yeah asdf Classic player is working fine for me but the problem is that I can't change the default codec for all players except the former one. And I unable to find out the HQ Output option in Windows Media Player nor in any other media player.

Because of this many videos in games aren't working. huh.gif

Waiting for your kind help.

Your problem with games has nothing to do with options in any player whatsoever.

Update DirectX. (there are updates for it almost every two months)

Use another version of your graphics drivers.

Thx for reply pal. I have tried most of the old and the latest version of graphics driver but to no avail and even before this thing happened my directx was updated to April 2007 version .

One thing I would like to mention here is that when I ran " Microsoft Windows XP Video Decoder Checkup Utility" ( Link given below )

http://download.microsoft.com/download/9/b...CCHECKSetup.EXE

I got this : ( below screenshot )

Though there are many decoders loaded (from GSpot I saw ). So it looks like somehow "System Default Direct Show Encoder" which I mentioned about Media Classic Player has got delinked even though there are many to decoders to decode a single file.

Now I am thinking is there any way to restore codec situation to a new install of Windows XP where every file are linked to their original decoder ?

And could you please guide me to the option which you mentioned in your previous post about "HQ Output" option in "Windows Media Player" ?

And from videos in games I meant to say that barring Classic Player none of the video in any of the Media Player ain't working so because of it's also not working in Games, since default decoder set for movies is none ( acc to decoder utility, but DivX , XviD , MS Codec Packs are loaded ).

I don't have WMP installed, so I can't help you with that.

That tool is only for checked for MPEG2 decoders. Not for anything else. Your games don't use MPEG2.

It could be that DirectShow is partly broken. This might fix it:
Start -> Run -> regsvr32 quartz.dll

Thx for reply pal but I had already registered base of Direct Show Filters ( quartz.dll, qdvd.dll, qcap.dll, qedit.dll ) through K-Lite "Codec Tweak Tool" and also did it through run command but both didn't work.

Yesterday night I got successful in playing video through " Windows Media Player 11" & "CrystalPlayer", by just unchecking the "Overlays" video rendering option, that means Overlays option is selected by media players as default and which is causing the problem.

So, I have two things to ask ;

1) Is there any way I can repair Overlays option to work flawlessly as it used to work before ?

( because it looks like this option is selected by default by all players, since "DivX Player" lacks such a option to disable it therefore I can't get video working in it. Please check that in your pc is it selected by default ? )

2) And can "Overlays" option be permanently disable for all players ?

Below is the screenshot showing Overlays option in Windows Media Player, which is the only option I disabled and kept all the settings as their default, and got the video immediately working in it.

And friend please try running that "Decoder Checkup Utility" in your system and tell me whether does it show any decoder available in your pc to decode MPEG-2 files.

Thx for all your help and your precious time. smile.gif

There is no global way to choose a renderer.

Most games will use Overlay. If Overlay is not working at all for you, that indicates a problem with your graphics drivers. If you have a nVidia card, then you could also try to reset all the settings in the nVidia control panel to their default values. Some of their drivers initially enable the wrong settings and values.

I have Intel 945 Chipset onboard graphics with latest drivers loaded and as per your advice I selected the default driver option but nothing fruitful happened.

And have you tried that "Decoder Checkup Utility" to find out any mpeg-2 decoded installed ?

Haha asdf don't get supicious about it. wink.gif ( It's from MS Site )

I requested you to check this because in my both notebooks I am getting the same messages, i.e. no codec installed for mpeg-2 files.

And if you don't want to check it for me, then there is absolutely no problem. tongue.gif

Anyhow, thx for all your valuable help and advice.
