New maxtor Hdd computer hdd difected

Hi, can someone help with a suggestion, I bought a new Maxtor 160gb, and I tried to format it to install window xp. But when it format 93% it stops. Is the new hardisk damaged?

Please follow the detailed procedures for configuring your new drive, which are provided for your use at the Maxtor/Seagate site.
The link is to ATA procedures, since you provided no information about your drive. Use the procedures for the specific drive you have, and if it is not an ATA drive then do NOT use the procedures at the link.
If you have difficulty in configuring the drive using the correct procedures for your drive, then check back here.
Give the model number of your drive, the link to the Seagate/Maxtor page with the procedures for configuring the drive, the step or steps of the procedure which are giving you difficulty, and what contacts you have had with Maxtor support on the issue. We'll be much more likely to be able to help you, with that information available.
