QuickTime Alternative not properly installed? File Type Associations can't be set

Hello!

I seem to have a problem with QuickTime Alternative 1.43 under Windows 98SE.

When I want to configure the 'File Type Associations' in settings right after installation, the program just reports the following:

"Some QuickTime viewer applications do not appear to be properly installed. It is recommended that you reinstall QuickTime before setting your viewer
associations".

Exept for this message the box is grey, there's no possibility of setting anything, even if I wanted to.

All the other settings seem to work though as well as the player itself seems to work. Still I would like to be able to limit its access to certain file types only.

Am I doing anything wrong, am I missing some installation QTA might need or could it be that some file types are already assigned to Winamp and OTA can't find them?

During the installation I chose everything exept for the Mozilla browser plugin as I'm using IE6.

I know there is already a version 1.44 out but I already downloaded 1.42 and 1.43 within just a couple of days with a slow 56k-modem, so maybe someone here has a hint about how to get this version to work properly?

Would be nice,

thank you in advance,

sima

Hi sima! smile.gif

Don't worry about it. This is not the "official" QT product, so you can't set the file associations in that dialog box.
The file extensions are registered during the installation properly.
It'll play all the QT web content using the codecs.
Also QT Alternative uses Media Player Classic for playing .mov, .qt files.
You can set these file associations in MPC, menu: View->Options then Player/Formats.
Tick "Quicktime file" (.mov .qt) when not checked yet.

Hello

& thanks :-).

It's good to know I didn't make a mistake!

The player did actually work, but as I'm just setting up my system from the start, I wanted to be sure everything's working correctly "under the surface" :-).

Thanks a lot,

bye,

sima
