Not quite the same as the other person who just posted, so I thought I'd give it it's own thread.
The primary problem is that MP3 files are not playing back properly. Choppy, distorted and otherwise unlistenable. The files themselves seem okay -- I copied one of the ones that was being problematic to another PC and it played back fine. And the problems persist across multiple media players (iTunes, WinAmp, VLC, Windows Media Player). AVI's seem to play back in VLC just fine.
In fact, the problems had been persisting across multiple audio outputs (regular sound card and a Mackie Onyx Firewire mixer), but now I can't get anything to play at all via the Mackie. I'll consider that a separate problem for the time being.
It's a Windows PC, running XP (SP2) with an Athlon dual core processor and 2GB of RAM.
It seems like it has to be a codec thing, doesn't it? So how do I go about troubleshooting? And, more importantly, fixing? Just start reinstalling codecs as per the guide on the main part of the site? Are there any particular ones I should be focusing on?
Thanks,
COZ
