TalkingSoft.com Forums: How do I get started with FFDSHOW? (dvd upscaling & filtering) - TalkingSoft.com Forums

I am running Vista Home Premium x64 SP1. I did some google searches for "pc dvd upscale" and similar keywords. As a result, I came across FFDSHOW.

There are plenty of DVD players out there that will upscale DVD's and run some nice filters on them to make some of the movies look downright amazing! For example, I've seen a DVD of The Shawshank Redemption played on a Toshiba HD-DVD player and it really started to approach HD quality. I want that on my PC.

I installed FFDSHOW and looked around at a whole lot of sites for information, but none of them started from the beginning! How do you get it all setup and running? I normally use WMP 11 or WMC to play my movies, but I did a test with WMP classic and was able to get my surround sound going (a very important thing to me.) But I was never able to get any of the FFDSHOW decoder settings working on any movies.
