TalkingSoft.com Forums: Adding Codec so PowerPoint can run my mpg video - TalkingSoft.com Forums

Hello,
I downloaded mpg video files from my camcorder. I can view them fine on my PC using "Windows Media Player".
My objective is to insert them into a PowerPoint presentation and have them play automatically. When I add the files to PowerPoint, they do not play. I did some checking and understand that PowerPoint plays video using the program mplay32.exe, and when I try to run the videos using this program on my PC, they don't play. I understand the solution to this situation is to download a codec. I have downloaded a few, but the problem remains. The codec that I currently have is the standard k-lite codec. I accepted all of the defaults, but mplay32.exe (and PowerPoint) still can't run my mpg video (although the player "Media Player Classic" that was installed when I installed k-lite is able to run the video).
I thought that maybe if I convert the video from mpg to a different format, I might get lucky in that the output video would not require codec. I haven't found a freeware program to do this: either the program can't read my mpg video or the output avi also can't be run using mplay32.exe.
So, I am now stuck. I would appreciate some advice.

LIkely only play MPEg1 and MPEg2 files. Should be able to identify what video/audio codecs it uses within MPC.
Try converting it file using WINAVi converter or try using a PowerPoint ADD-In.
