A while ago i messed up my codecs by installing something else. I think it was a different kind of codec. It told me i had to uninstall a bunch of things for this particular one to install. I wasn't paying much attention and i did.

Since then i haven't been able to play movies successfully and cleanly all the time. I can play them with VLC but i want to play them in WMP.

When i play the video with WMP on the bottom left it says 'Acquiring Codec" then "Codec Acquired. But then it doesn't play. If i move along the timeline i can get a still image but it just wont play. Other times it wont work at all.

So what type of codecs do i need to make this all go away? What codecs do i need so i never have these problems again?

And please don't tell me to just use VLC..

Cheers.

Doesn't help.

I've tried that AVICodec program.

It tells me i need XVID Mpeg-4. I download it and install it but still doesn't help me.
