Horribly Stuttery/Choppy Audio when Using Anything but VLC

I think I need help....

I recently formatted my PC and reinstalled everything. When I went to reinstall the K-Lite Codec Pack, I decided to download a newer version than the one I had, and when I installed it, it did somethign weird to my comp.

When I try to play certain video files in media player or media center, the picture is fine, but the audio is completely screwed up. It's hard to describe just how it sounds...it's kind of choppy, almost like it's cutting in and out like 15 times a second. I thought maybe it was the files themselves, but when I tried playing them in VLC, they worked fine. I know I could just accept this and use VLC for playing the files, but I have my PC set up as a pretty nice home theatre, and I like to use media center cause it's completely integrated with the remote control I have. I cant see any differences in the files that play with crappy sound and those that work fine, I checked the properties of a couple to compare, and they were both xvid lame mp3 encoded. The choppy file had higher resolution and frame rate, but then I found a couple files that work fine and have even higher resolutions and frame rates.

I'm convinced it's some simple setting in a coded that I can't find...Any help would be incredibly appreciated.

Thanx

It is probably a bad audio driver. It is certainly not a codec problem.

If you are using Windows Media Player then try this tweak:
CODE
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\NodeCLSIDs\{95037DA1-6ED9-4B27-8CFF-9AD3DFB0B2F2}]
"AutoInsert"=dword:00000000

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\NodeCLSIDs\{E5A8C40E-654B-44D4-ACBB-DBE6D3B3333B}]
"AutoInsert"=dword:00000000

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\NodeCLSIDs\{FB02E8EF-ACFE-4CC0-96DF-8B5C7098272C}]
"AutoInsert"=dword:00000000
