i need a codec for avi file

i have a film on my pc,the sound and picture are far the best i have ever seen.so i want to put it on disk biggrin.gif every time i put it through my converter,it keeps saying,it needs a codec for it,i even tryed my other converter and that won't have it neither.i really want to have this film on disk.....i love and hate avi blink.gif

What converter/burning prog. do u use? And what format r u trying to convert to? SVCD? DVD? unsure.gif

Ok, and what's the exact error message?

BTW TMPGEnc is a quality tool for converting AVI to VCD/SVCD format. You should try it as well wink.gif

when i use the cucusoft it says "can't find a codec for your avi file,please make sure you have installed a appropriate codec" my other converter won't have it neither sad.gif

But you can play this AVI, can't you? So the decoders are installed then.
You can verify whether the codecs are installed properly for this AVI with GSpot.

Just load the AVI through menu: File/Open.
Then you'll see the Video and Audio codecs used in the AVI and the suitable codecs installed on your system.

Well, it's strange....
Does the filename include some special characters, or the directory structure, where you're trying to open it? unsure.gif
You could try to rename the file and move to C:/

Did you checked the AVI with GSpot? Then what's Video Codec Name, 4cc and the Audio Codec name? What codecs are installed for this AVI?
